Each 291EXP adds four additional heat pump outputs to a Tekmar Smart Heat Pump Control 291 system.

Selectable heat pump groups
DIP switches assign the module to heat pumps 5-8, 9-12, or 13-16 for larger staged systems.

3-wire expansion connection
The module connects to the 291 through a polarity-sensitive -, +, and Gnd expansion bus up to 100 ft with 18 AWG cable.

Heat and cool relay outputs
Supports compressor and reversing valve wiring, or separate heat and cool enable signals for compatible heat pumps.

4-pipe diverting valve support
Provides one diverting valve output per heat pump to direct flow between hot and cold tanks in 4-pipe systems.

Power and communication LEDs
Power, communication, heating, and cooling LEDs help verify operation and identify wiring issues during service.
Scale larger systems
Use 291EXP modules with the Smart Heat Pump Control 291 to expand from four onboard heat pumps up to 16 total heat pumps.
Installer-ready wiring
Clearly labeled terminals cover expansion communication, diverting valves, heat pump stages, and 115 V input power.
Commanded by the 291
All heat pump relays are normally off and respond to commands from the 291, with output status matching the 291 heat pump menu.
Faster troubleshooting
Power and communication LED states help verify supply voltage, expansion wiring, polarity, and communication with the main control.
