Pellet Duo FAQ
Direct answers about Pellet Duo 20, 50, and 95 boilers, including sizing, fuel, hot water, installation, and maintenance.
The Pellet Duo is an automatic wood pellet boiler for hydronic heating systems. It heats water for radiant floors, fan coils, air handlers, radiators, and indirect domestic hot water tanks when the system is designed for those loads.
Use the specs table as the source of truth for model coverage: Pellet Duo 20 is for up to 3,000 sq ft, Pellet Duo 50 for up to 6,200 sq ft, and Pellet Duo 95 for up to 12,000 sq ft. Final sizing should be based on heat loss, climate, insulation, ceiling height, domestic hot water demand, and hydronic design.
Pellet Duo boilers are designed for automatic pellet operation and can also support multi-fuel use such as pellets, grains, corn, and similar biomass fuels when configured correctly. Fuel quality, moisture, ash content, and local availability affect efficiency and maintenance.
Yes. A properly sized Pellet Duo can heat a whole building through hydronic distribution and can support domestic hot water through an indirect tank or approved system design. The boiler, buffer tank, pumps, controls, and domestic hot water tank must be planned as one system.
The Pellet Duo 20, 50, and 95 include a manual firebox in the specs table. This gives backup or supplemental solid-fuel flexibility, but normal operation should follow the boiler manual, local code, and the installed control setup.
Pellet Duo boilers are listed at up to 92% efficiency. Actual efficiency depends on fuel quality, moisture content, chimney draft, cleaning, return-water protection, controls, and the hydronic system design.
Many pellet boiler systems benefit from thermal storage and boiler return-temperature protection. A buffer tank can reduce cycling, and a boiler protection valve helps protect the boiler from low return temperatures. Confirm the final layout with MBTEK or a qualified hydronic installer.
Plan chimney draft, flue sizing, combustion air, clearances, hydronic piping, pumps, controls, thermal storage, fuel storage, and electrical service before ordering. Local code and installer requirements should guide the final mechanical room design.
Routine maintenance includes emptying ash, cleaning heat-transfer surfaces, checking the burner and hopper, inspecting gaskets and venting, and keeping pellets dry. Annual hydronic service should also check pumps, valves, controls, expansion tank, and water quality.
Operating cost depends on pellet price, heat loss, climate, setpoints, domestic hot water load, and system design. Compare fuel cost per delivered BTU and include maintenance, buffer storage, and installation quality when comparing pellets with oil, gas, or propane.
